Resumen
El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el papel de las variables biopsicosociales en el desarrollo de motivación por la musculatura. La muestra incluyó 258 varones estudiantes universitarios de 17 a 26 años quienes contestaron diversos cuestionarios que evalúan variables biopsicosociales asociadas a la presencia de síntomas de dismorfia muscular. El análisis de regresión indicó que el afecto negativo durante la última semana, la influencia de los modelos musculares, la alimentación social y ejercicio, la práctica de ejercicio y la realización de dieta para mejorar la apariencia predijeron de manera confiable los síntomas de dismorfia muscular. Esto destaca el papel ponderante de los factores biopsicosociales, especialmente la influencia de los medios y la internalización de los modelos mostrados en los medios. En este sentido, es apropiado que los programas de prevención dirigidos a disminuir los síntomas de dismorfia muscular se enfoquen en dichas variables sociales.
