Abstract
The main objective of the present investigation was to test a model that includes negative affect, non-conscious eating, BMI and gender as predictors of emotional eating and body dissatisfaction. A study with a quantitative, cross-sectional, correlational approach was suggested and a non-probabilistic sample of 225 Mexican men and women with a mean age of 20.84 years (S.D.=2.11) was obtained. A battery of tests was applied individually with an online modality, with adequate evidence of validity and reliability, to measure the variables included in the model. Among the main results, a model with adequate goodness-of-fit values was found (X2=4.83; p=.565; RMR=.068; NFI=.988; CFI=1.00; RMSEA=.000) that explains almost 30 % variance in emotional eating directly predicted by unaware eating and negative affect, and 52% of body image dissatisfaction directly explained by gender, BMI, and unaware eating. The findings identify important variables for eating health that indicates the inclusion of topics for the intervention and prevention of eating disorders and promoting an adequate body imageReferences
